Taking this medicine with other drugs that make you sleepy can worsen this effect. Ask your doctor before taking amitriptyline with a sleeping pill, narcotic pain medicine, muscle relaxer, or medicine for anxiety, depression, or seizures.

Consult with the doctor about all your current medicines like other antidepressants, cimetidine, heart rhythm medicine such as flecainide, propafenone, quinidine, and others; or medicine to treat mental illness.

Increased risk of psychosis in schizophrenic patients, Amitriptyline oral tablet can increase the symptoms of schizophrenia

It should be discontinued several days before any surgery

Amitriptyline oral tablet can increase or decrease blood sugar levels

Amitriptyline tablet can increase your risk for certain heart problems such as heart attack, arrhythmia (rapid heart rate or rhythm), and stroke

This tablet may increase the risk of urinary retention (not able to urinate)

Is breast feeding safe after taking Amitriptyline tablet?

This medicine should not be used by women who are breastfeeding. If it is absolutely necessary to take this medicine then you should stop breastfeeding. Consult your doctor before using this medicine.

Can pregnant women take this medicine?

This medicine should be used by pregnant women only when the benefits outweigh the risk associated with usage. This medicine can cause harmful effects on foetus. Hence, you are advised to consult your doctor before taking this medicine.

Can you drink alcohol with antibiotics Amitriptyline tablet?

You should restrict or minimize the use of alcohol while taking this medicine. Symptoms like sleepiness, excessive sweating, muscle stiffness and change in pulse should be reported to the doctor on priority.

What is the duration of this medicine effect?

The effect of this medicine lasts for an average duration of 4-7 weeks after onset of action. However, it is subject to variation based on a patient’s response to the medicine after administration.

Can I have withdrawal symptoms if I stop taking amitriptyline tablet?

If you suddenly stop taking amitriptyline tablet , you can have withdrawal symptoms such as nausea, headache, and fatigue.
