Foods Not to Be Stored in a Fridge

Foods Not to Be Stored in a Fridge

No tall items should be stored in cold temperature. Sometimes food tastes better if left out of the cooler. Here is a list of such products:

1.Potatoes

Potatoes are a type of vegetable Foods that should not be put in the refrigerator. What it needs is a cool place where it’s dark and dry. The reasons why is very simple: the sugar that the plant contains quickly converts into sugar of the vegetable is kept in cold. Another tip for you: take the potatoes out of the plastic bag once you bring them home from the store. Potatoes need air ventilation.

2.Bread

The cold environment will only make your bread dry. If you want it to be soft, avoid placing it in the fridge. Also, cold temperatures make the product tough and chewy. What is fine to do is to keep prepared sandwiches in the fridge, but not the whole loaf of fresh bread. One more bad thing that happens to bread in the fridge is that it becomes hard and stale much quicker.

3.Melons

Unopened melons can be kept on the kitchen counter. There is absolutely no need to place them in the fridge. Studies have proved that the levels of antioxidants that whole melons contain stay the same if the fruit is stored at room temperature. However, low temperatures will make the food lose its beta-carotene content. If the melon has been opened and sliced, you can safely keep the leftovers in the cooler. Remember to cover the food.

4.Fruit Foods

Do not prevent your fruit from ripening by placing it in the refrigerator. The same rule applies to vegetables. The fruits that like room temperature are: peaches, plums, mangoes, kiwis and apricots. Your kitchen counter is the best place for vegetables and fruits. You can also put them in the pantry if it is well ventilated, cool and dry.

5.Salad

What is your salad based on? If it’s vinegar or oil, then it’s all right to keep the food out of the fridge for quite a long period of time. Unfortunately, salad dressings that come in contact with low temperatures change their texture and taste and make your salad smell different. If your salad is based on yogurt or mayo, then it should be stored in the fridge. In all other instances it is safe to keep your salad away from the cooler.
