Foods Avoid During Irritable Bowel Syndrome

Irritable bowel syndrome IBS is not a serious disease but group of symptoms due to abnormal pattern of bowel movements. Certain foods avoid during irritable bowel syndrome can help to reduce the symptoms.

The symptoms of IBS are abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, and bloating. As a result it negatively affects your life in many ways. The exact cause of IBS is not known yet.

According to some theories causes may be gut motility disorders, pain sensitivity, infections like small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, genetic factors, and food sensitivity.

Food sensitivity can be best understood if you start eliminate certain food items from your list. As a result see the changes after that, which gives hint to avoid certain particular food.

Here is the list of food items which you should avoid or stop eating at least once.

Gluten rich food in irritable bowel syndrome

Some cereals like rye, wheat and barley which we consume on daily basis are gluten rich. Gluten is a type of protein which may affect IBS in individuals.

So to avoid irritable bowel syndrome symptoms one should not take gluten rich food.

Milk and dairy products

Milk and other dairy products contain lactose which may increases the symptoms of IBS. In addition to that fat ingredient of milk can increases diarrhea.

Other foods avoid during irritable bowel syndrome are ice creams, cheese, curd, yoghurt and butter.

Different types of beans

Though beans are rich in protein and fibers but unfortunately it may trigger the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome.

Black beans, soybeans, anasazi beans, fava beans, garbanzo beans (chickpeas), kidney beans and lima beans are the examples of beans.

Fried Foods avoid during irritable bowel syndrome

Frying food change the chemical makeup of the food, making it more difficult to digest. In addition to that it is not healthy for body and increases the symptoms of IBS.

Alcohol and beverages

Like beer contains gluten and other soft drinks contain sugar, both has capacity to increase the problems related to irritable bowel syndrome

Occasionally drinks are normal but heavy and daily consumption of alcohol can have harmful effect on liver and body.

Avoid caffeinated drinks

Coffee, tea, sodas, and energy drinks contain caffeine which has stimulating effect on the symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome. It can cause constipation and acidity.

Another thing about caffeine is it increases dehydration process of body. Deficiency of water in body probably be the reason of difficulty in bowel movement.

Avoid spices during IBS

Spices adds unique flavor to food which makes it tastier. Almost all the especial dishes are incomplete without spices like cinnamon, clove, bay leaf and many more.

Garlic and onion also adds flavors and also they are difficult to digest by stomach. Due to difficulty in digestion leads to formation of cramp, gas, and acidity.

Broccoli and Cabbage foods avoid during irritable bowel syndrome

Though broccoli is high in fiber, but it can cause gas. This can increase bloating and cause some irritable bowel syndrome symptoms.

Cabbage is also to cause gas, which can lead to painful stomach troubles.
